

Carlos G. Alvarado, a dedicated family man, proud veteran, and distinguished civil servant, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, at the age of 81. Carlos was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret S. Alvarado; his parents, Lucas F. Alvarado and Trinidad G. Alvarado; and his brothers, Gilbert Alvarado and Raul Alvarado. He is survived by his children, Carlos S. Alvarado (wife Cindy), Yvonne S. Alvarado, and Daniel S. Alvarado (wife Bianca); his brother, Armando Alvarado; and his sisters, Hortencia Chavez, Janie Alva, and Trine Gutierrez. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and countless friends who were part of his life from childhood, his career, and his retirement years.
Carlos graduated from Harlandale High School in 1960. He then proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964 as an infantryman where he was elevated from private first class to sergeant. Later in 1978 he became a reservist with the United States Air Force with the rank of sergeant. In 1966 he began a distinguished 33-year civil service career at Kelly Air Force Base. Carlos started as a Warehouse Worker Helper in December 1966 and quickly advanced through the ranks. Within his first year, he was promoted to an Air Freight Loader and then to an Aircraft Electrician/Journeyman in 1969, a role he held for nine years. In 1978, he transitioned to the MATEA organization as an Industrial Engineering Technician and later became a supervisor, steadily climbing the career ladder to the roles of GS-12 and GS-13 supervisory positions.
Carlos also pursued higher education at St. Philip’s College, earning an Associate of Science degree in 1979. In 1991, Carlos became a permanent GS-13 second-level supervisor, earning numerous Sustained Superior Performance Awards, Outstanding Performance Awards, and other notable accolades for his exceptional work. He was then temporarily promoted to a GS-14 position in 1993, further solidifying his legacy of leadership and dedication.
Carlos' greatest joy was his family, and he especially cherished spending time with his beloved granddaughter, Katherine. He was a pillar of strength, kindness, and wisdom to all who knew him.
The family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Porter Loring Mortuary.
