

Carmen Vazquez, a beloved resident of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on January 12, 2026, at the age of 92. Born in Comerio, Puerto Rico on September 19,1933, Carmen lived a life marked by dedication, creativity, and love for her family.
Carmen is preceded in death by her father, Jesus Díaz; her mother, Herminia Ortega; her brothers, Pablo, Jesus, and Angel Luis; and her sisters, Blanca, Hilda, and Alba Nydia. She is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Ramon Luis Vazquez, and their four children: Vivian Perez (Juan Carlos), Anna Marie Surls (Mike), Wanda Rohne (Russell), and Ramon “Randy” Vazquez. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Joey, Jonathan, Laura, JC, Jeanelle, Evan, Christian, and Kayla, as well as nine great-grandchildren: Zoey, Jack, Mia, Ethan, Tripp, Santi, James, London, and Luca. Her surviving siblings include brothers Pedro and Alberto, and sisters Zoraida, Celia, Lucila, Elsie, and Milly, along with many nephews and nieces.
Carmen was a brilliant woman who, through strong determination and commitment, accomplished goals that broke the barriers of women of her generation. She graduated from high school at the age of 16 and went on to earn an associate degree in business administration. Carmen worked as a Professional Executive Administrative Assistant for Sea-Land for over two decades. In her retirement, she became a published author, further showcasing her talents and passions.
Carmen's interests and hobbies were varied and vibrant. She loved to garden, maintaining a pristine patio and experimenting with new plants. Her creative spirit thrived as she converted her garage into an arts and crafts retreat, where she painted on canvas and sewed beautiful creations for home decor and clothes for her granddaughters. Throughout her life, her curiosity led her to participate in various creative activities, including painting, writing, and photography.
Carmita, as she was affectionately known, will be remembered for her compassionate heart and her willingness to provide a helping hand to the less fortunate. As a creative entrepreneur, she found joy in interior design and event planning for family and friends. Most importantly, she was devoted to her family, often sacrificing her own needs to provide the best upbringing possible for her children.
Carmen Vazquez's legacy of love, creativity, and dedication will be cherished by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held at Sunset North Funeral Home, located at 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232, on January 21, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Rosary will follow at the same location from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The Committal Service will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter 5, located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, on January 22, 2026, from 9:45 am to 10:05 am.
