My condolences to your family. Carol was my kindergarten teacher at Arnold Elementary in the early 80’s. I still remember so many memories from that class. One of my favorites being, warming up flour tortillas and eating them with butter. Or playing house using a refrigerator box as our front door. Such a great educator and person. May she rest in peace.

Carol will always have a special place in my heart. She gave me the first opportunities in my educational career, first as a student teacher and then as a second-grade teacher at Barkley/Ruiz in SAISD. She led with a big heart and a lot of grace.  I loved working for Carol because she always treated everyone like family.  She left a legacy behind that will never be forgotten. My sincerest condolences to her husband Abel and their family.

I met Carol back in 1986 when she was a Kindergarden teacher at Arnold Elementary which my daughter would be in her class. Any student that had her just loved her cause she was the sweetest yet firm when had to be. I lost touch with her until a few years ago.

My daughter in turn decided to become a teacher also which shes been teaching for 17 yrs in same district. Just a year ago Jeanette had been chosen for ksat teacher of the month an we had a picture of her an Carol from Kinder an when showed on ksat Carol text me cause she was very happy for her an shocked to see picture.
She fought a long hard battle with her cancer as long as she could. Will be missed great but never forgotten. 
To her husband and family just remember she will always be with you, either a red bird, a butterfly, anything just her saying hi.

Carol was a wonderful person and principal.  Our relationship began in 2001, after 9/11, when my husband was furloughed from his pilot position at American Airlines. Consequently, I needed to return to teaching after being a stay-at-home-mom to our four children for ten years.  Carol gave me a wonderful opportunity when I interviewed with her and she hired me. She gave me a chance to provide for my family, have insurance coverage, and further my career. She was not only my boss, but she was my friend, too. She welcomed me into the Barkley family and the next year, when the Barkley/Ruiz campus was completed, my teaching family grew, too. She always worked so hard to bring people together, and combining the campuses was a challenge that she rose to and accomplished well.

I admire Carol, she was always a great role model for me in the workplace and in my personal life, too. She championed many students and many causes over her career and after retirement. I loved that she was such a strong woman and a fighter in everything important to her - most recently, fighting this terrible disease. May she rest in peace.
