Carole W. Old

20 December, 1938 – 18 January, 2026
IN THE CARE OF

Porter Loring Mortuary - North

Carole W. Old, 87, passed away peacefully with family by her side on 1/18/2026. Born in Austin, she married the love of her life Col. William D. Old II, US Army in 1957. Their love began in Germany in 1955 and saw them across multiple duty stations during Don’s career, including the Ranger Camp at Eglin AFB in Florida, and a return to Germany, before settling in Shavano Park in 1981.

Carole was a consummate homemaker and hostess, most well-known to others for her annual Army-Navy Game watch party with the West Point Alumni of 1954. For her family, “Oma” was known for hosting teatime and imparted an appreciation for afternoon tea that has become family tradition. Her hobbies included cooking incredible meals with recipes from a large collection of cookbooks, a variety of handicrafts, sewing, quilting, embroidery, making ornaments, and more.

She was mother to Laurita Old Hudec DNP (Lt Col (ret) Ricky A. Hudec) and to The Honorable Judge William D. Old III (Sheila L. Old). Mrs. Old is survived by grandchildren, Evan Allen Hudec, Amanda Couquiesee Hull (Cody D. Hull), Meghan Spencer Hudec, Addison Couquiesee Old, William Spencer Old, Ashley Old Sutton (Mike Sutton), and John Clayton Old. She was the proud great-grandmother of Wyler Patrick Hull, Tamsin Couquiesee Hull, and Charlotte Joy Sutton. Sister to Geanie Schmidt, Barbara Smetana and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

She also leaves behind her faithful dog Jake, who was at her side during her illness. Services will be at the National Cemetery at Fort Sam Houston, where she will be interred with her husband of 57 years.
