

He was born to Lillian and George Edward Basham, but was raised by his maternal grandparents, William and Delia Bates. He attended school in San Antonio and joined the Army Corp of Engineers at age 18. He retired from Kelly Air Force Base after 32 years of Civil Service in 1973.
He was a licensed real estate broker until shortly before his death. He had a passion for education and received a Ph.D. in Human Resources Management. Carroll was a member of University United Methodist Church since 1980. He received his 50th year pin from the Kelly AFB Chapter of the Masonic Lodge #1131.
A veteran of WWII and Korea, he was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8800. Carroll was commanding officer of SA Squadron Civil Air Patrol, a charter member of the Northside Optimist Club, member of Lions International and a member of the Gideons. He was an 8 year volunteer for the Bluebirds at Methodist Hospital and a member of the San Antonio Conservation Society.
His hobbies included snow skiing, water skiing, golf, fishing, RVing, pilot, square dancing and calling, woodworking, master craftsman, and writing humor.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Carroll Wayne Basham and daughter, Pamela Jean Basham.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Basham; daughter, Terri Hudson and husband Jim; step-daughters, Nancy Hildenburg, Brenda Gonzalez and husband Jerry, Cynthia Beck and husband Thomas, Kathy Grover and husband Bob, Debra Hammer and husband Greg; step-son, Robert Remmers and wife Karen; eleven grandchildren; brothers, Charles Basham and Thomas Collier; sisters, Margaret Horejsi, JoAnn Neal, Betty Jean Pollock, and Darlene Underwood.
Pallbearers will be Chase Hudson, Jeremy Hildenburg, Jerry Clayton Gonzalez, Robert Remmers, David McFarland and Jerry Gonzalez. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Beaver, Billy Thompson and Jerry Alexander.
