Cathy Ann Balderas was born on February 14, 1953 in Anniston, Alabama to Joseph and Loraine Clark. She attended Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama, where she earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree in 1976 and began working at Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Alabama. Cathy served in the Army Reserve from 1982 to 1986 as a Labor and Delivery Nurse. She then entered Active Duty in the Army in 1986 until she was medically retired in 1993. Cathy was stationed at Ft. McClellan, AL, Ft. Sam Houston, TX and Ft. Benning, GA, where she served as the Head Nurse of Labor and Delivery at Martin Army Community Hospital. She retired as a Captain/O-3, and her awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Army Lapel Button.
Cathy loved her cats, Jake and Callie, and her dogs, Lady Priscilla, Australian Shepherd and Little Man, Chihuahua. Her favorite color was red, favorite flower, the rose. She loved to read books, crossword puzzles, paint landscapes, sew, decorate the house, and garden. Her absolute love was nursing, labor and delivery, over 27 years, military and civilian.
Cathy fell asleep and is awaiting the return of our Lord Jesus Christ on June 9, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Loraine Clark. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Elias V. Balderas, also an Army Veteran, her sister, Charlene and husband Roger Cunningham, three daughters, Christi and husband Ott Chandler, Shelley Auffant, Marlina Balderas, son, Elias Nathan Balderas and fiancée, Tiffany Smallwood, four grandsons, Peter Colton Auffant, Evan Nathan Balderas, Ott Chandler Jr, and Noah Balderas.
There will be a ceremony with full military honors on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, 11:15 AM, Pavilion 2, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
