

KESSING, Charles Thomas. Retired Naval Commander Charles Thomas Kessing passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on December 30, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. Charles was born June 27, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the son of Charles Clements Kessing and Ellen Marie Hart, of Cincinnati Ohio. Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a graduate of the US Naval Academy ('50) and proudly served his country in World War II and the Korean War. After retiring from active duty, Charles and Rosemarie started raising their family in Cincinnati and in 1963 moved to Buffalo New York where he resided until eventually moving to San Antonio in 1994 to be close to his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his three sisters, Elizabeth Ann Steffen and Mary Eileen Schmalle of Cincinnati and Patricia Jean Crouse of Tempe, Arizona, his five daughters, Amy Kessing O'Neil (Richard), Molly Kessing Dupnick (Stephen), Susan Kessing O'Brien (Don) of San Antonio, Nancy Kessing Prior (John) and Jennifer Kessing Wienecke (Allen) of Houston and one son, Thomas Craig Kessing (Sarah) of Aiken, South Carolina. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Rosemarie Eckert Kessing, brother, John W. Kessing, sister, Helen Kessing, and son, Jonathan Adam Kessing. Charles leaves the legacy of service to God, family, and country to his nineteen grandchildren: Megan Lynn McCoy (Dustin), Kevin Paul O'Neil (Debran), Kelly O'Neil, Jessica Lynn Prior, Julie Marie Prior, Katherine Ann Troutner (Tim), Matthew Kessing (Emily), David Kessing (Cari), Ellen Marie Kessing, Michael Joseph Dupnick, Bridget Dupnick, Erin Lee O'Brien, Colleen Rose O'Brien, Caitlin Clare O'Brien, Regan Jean O'Brien, Jonathan Taylor Wienecke, Tyler Scott Wienecke, Jeffrey Daniel Wienecke and Nicholas James Wienecke and his two great grandsons, Nathan Charles McCoy and Wendell Hudson Troutner. He was proudly known as the ancient mariner and granddaddy to all. He will forever be remembered for his open heart and home. Granddaddy, you are all of our sunshines. Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
