McCoy. He attended the public schools in Roanoke and graduated from William Fleming High School in 1962. He began his military career with the U. S. Army in August 1962. Soon after, he united in marriage with Susan Lutterman. Three children, Victoria Lynn, Karen Sue and David Lee were born to this union. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Doug’s military career continued with various tours of duty including Germany and Vietnam. It was during his last assignment in the Office of the Inspector General, Fifth Army, at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, that he met his then future wife, Terri Lynn. After a three-year courtship, they were wed on March 9, 1985.
He completed his career in August 1985, retiring as a Master Sargent. He then embarked on a second career as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, and retired in 2007. During this career and after retirement he enjoyed his many interests in hobbies such as his motor home, hot rod, guns, fishing, traveling and his pets, to name a few. He was a lifetime member of S.A.L.E. (San Antonio Livestock Expedition) Livestock Committee. He also became a self-taught computer expert. He had a unique talent and ability with hand and mind, and he loved the challenge of not only repairing but actually creating and building things to meet his needs.
