

Charlotte Jane Sarratt passed on to be with the Lord on August 3, 2002. She was born on September 24, 1910 in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Col. Edwin O. Sarratt and Charlotte Norton Sarratt. In her younger years, she moved around the country and to Panama with her Army family. She earned BBA degree from the University of Texas at Austin, but soon decided to make her career in elementary education. She taught at Fenwick, Highland Hill and Crockett elementary schools. In 1943 Miss Sarratt took a leave of absence from the schools to join the newly formed Women's Army Auxillary Corps and later in the Women's Army Corps, when it became part of the regular Army. After the war, Miss Sarratt remained in the Active Reserve until 1963, when she retired as a Major. She returned to teaching after the war and earned Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Southwest Texas State University, and was promoted to Principal first at Nelson Elementary and then at Woodlawn Hills, both in the SAISD. During her later years, she was active in the National Society of Colonial Dames and the Society of Mayflowers Descendants. She was a member of the San Antonio Military-Civilian Club. She also spent much time and energy researching her family geneology. Her brothers, E. Oliver Sarratt, Jr., Henry N. Sarratt and Charles S. Sarratt, all predeceased her. She is survived by: her sister-in-law, Ann N. Sarratt; and nieces and nephews, Edwin O. Sarratt, III, William D. Sarratt, Charlotte Ann Hibner, Mary S. Dillard, Charles S. Sarratt, Jr. and wife, Pricilla, Michael D. Sarratt and wife, Annie, Michelle S. Makvandi and husband, Beiglar, E. Anthony Sarratt, Robert N. Sarratt and wife, Debbie and Eleanor Joan Sarratt
