My sincerest condolences go out to the Unterseher family. I knew SSgt Unterseher from San Antonio, he was a mentor and a leader to look up to. Chris always knew how to put a smile on anyone’s face. He organized a memorable Marine Corps field mess night full of camaraderie and it was my favorite and lasting memory of the Marine Corps. Rest In Peace. I can only imagine the pain and agony the family must be going through with this immeasurable loss. Please let it be known if there is any way to provide additional support.

We only visited a few times. It was always a positive experience with meaningful conversation.

I had the pleasure of serving with Chris (aka SSgt U) for the past 4 years and I got to know him pretty well. I, like so many of his fellow Marines, friends, and family, will miss him dearly.  He was a husband, a father, a patriot, and a solid Marine.  I offer my sincere and deepest sympathies to his wife, children, mother and father for their loss. My heart goes out to each of you.  Know that Chris served our nation and the Corps for nearly 20 years, spanning 3 wars. I am honored to have served alongside him here in TX and to have had him within my ranks.  I have many fond memories of Chris, but two remain at the forefront.  Chris would often recite from memory the MIA/POW script to honor those lost or captured in war, and we could always count on him to be in good spirits and bring his US flag to our hikes or PT events - he was a true patriot. I've known Chris since 2012 when we served together in San Antonio. It struck me then, even as a doofus junior Marine, that Chris was much more than an exceptional leader. He was also a really good person with a great heart, who went out of his way to treat  everyone like a human being. He was one of the few who kept in touch after I left the Marine Corps, across continents and time zones, good years and bad. It has been such a meaningful thing to have a friend who believed in that fraternity well beyond EAS, beyond the responsibility to care for his junior Marines. His character, that streak of pure goodness, has left an indelible mark on many. My heart and my condolences go out to Chris' family and friends. He is missed.

I had the pleasure of knowing Chris for past decade. I served with him first in San Antonio and again in Camp Lejeune. He was my friend and mentor, always willing to listen and put others needs ahead of his own. My deepest condolences go out to Chris' family. You will be missed brother.

Absolutely outstanding Noncommisioned Officer and friend. I'm so proud that I had the honor of being his friend and getting to experience such selflessness and desire to help brighten others' days. You will be missed brother. To the Unterseher family: Thank you so much for raising such an excellent man. I can only imagine the love and guidance you provided to have a person of his caliber come about.

It has been an honor serving with Chris. We last hung out 2 weeks ago at my husband's induction ceremony where he played with my daughter and she learned his name and had hilarious staring contests. We had a running joke of somehow always running across each other, and now I just wanna cross paths one more time. Chris was such a wonderful person to be around, bringing energy and motivation everywhere he went. My heart goes out to the Unterseher family.

My deepest sympathies to Chris' family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss.  Chris was a genuine,  honest soul, who continually put others first.  I am proud to have called him a friend.  He is missed.

Chris was the first friend I ever had at summer camp.  The one thing about Chris and something I really admire about him, is he is just not afraid to say what’s on his mind.  You always knew where he stood. And in a world where there’s so much hypocrisy and deceit it was nice to know such an authentic guy.  We grew quite distant over the years but I would like his family to know he impacted my life in a positive way.

I am so very proud and honored to have been able to call Chris my son! When he was called to serve his country, he went without question. His dedication to the service of his country was incredible.  He gave his all in everything he did. He was loved by so many and his impact on all whose lives he touched was so special! I  love and miss you son. Losing you has left a hole in my heart that can't be filled! I love you firever!

Remembering Chris Unterseher and family, you are on our minds and in our hearts. An incredible friend that will always be missed but never forgotten.
