Chrystal was born May 4,1932 to Crystal Marsee and Dred Woodley Martin in Waelder, TX. After Chrystal graduated from Gonzales High School, she worked in the family cafe and studied secretarial skills.
In June of 1952, she married Carroll Lamar LePori and moved to San Antonio. They had four children, Christy Lynn, Debra Sue, Vicki Ann, and Carroll Lamar, Jr. “Rocky”.
Most important to Chrystal was her role model as a mother. She greatly enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She taught her children early about God and our Savior, Jesus Christ. She taught her children how to pray and they were able to witness God’s answers to her prayers. When her children were in middle and high school, she developed the “routine” of gathering in a circle on top of Rocky’s bed where they always prayed for “the boy’s in Vietnam”. Of course, they later learned there were girls in Vietnam too!
She always supported her children and let them know how much she deeply loved them. They knew that she believed in them and was there for them, no matter what.
Chrystal loved to cook and was a true master in the kitchen. She was able to make a pound of beef and a pot of beans go far. She made the best homemade yeast rolls. Chrystal made real homemade cookies each week, and yes, her children licked the beaters. One of the stories she loved to share was that at “Sunday after church Pot Roast dinners”, she would hear her children say, “pass the rag.” She decided then to buy and teach them how to use napkins.
Chrystal was an excellent seamstress. She made many of her children’s clothes, the BEST Barbie Doll clothes in the world, and scrunchies for her granddaughters.
She loved sales, coupons, and saving money. She frequently shopped at Solo Serve. The family loved that place! She frequented garage sales and cruised antique stores as she was always looking to add to her collection of Tony Wons books. Chrystal also loved dolls and gave many to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren….and kept many for herself.
Chrystal took many trips with her family to the beach, to Florida, to London and Scotland, to the Grand Canyon and other places. Everyone had a great time on these trips. At the beach she would collect sea shells for the children Christy taught, saying that some of those children probably never have an opportunity to go to the beach.
One of her “love languages”, for sure, was giving and Christmas was one of her favorite times to give, She started shopping for the next Christmas the day following the current Christmas at all of the after Christmas sales.
Chrystal worked at National Bank of Commerce for approximately 30 years. When she retired, she spent time with her 10 grandchildren. She also worked with her daughter, Debbie, (a district manager for Avon) selling Avon and helping run the reception desk.
She developed Dementia around 2013 and struggled with the changes that come with that disease.
She was predeceased by her parents Crystal and Dred. She was also predeceased by her siblings Reatha Bell Davis, Willie Mae Tuton, Dred Woodley Martin, Jr., Lucy Mary Polasek (Sue), Sam Glover Martin, and Dennis Don Martin.
