

Born April 24, 1945 in Riverside, New Jersey, Clyde T. Slater Jr. grew up with the nickname of “Sonny.” He joined the United States Army at the age of 17. He served two tours in Vietnam. His awards include The Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, The Soldiers Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. After serving proudly for 21 years he retired in Tuckerton, New Jersey. He went to South Korea and served as a bank manager in the Navy Federal Credit Union and later worked with DynCorp.
In 1993, he was medically transported to San Antonio, Texas to receive a heart transplant. He then settled in San Antonio with his family. He loved life and was always appreciative of the extra life that God had awarded him with his new heart. Never did he imagine that he would be able to see his own children grow up, but to see his grandchildren be born was a blessing that he never forgot to thank God for. He always praised the Lord and kept his faith.
He had a great sense of humor, loved to be center of attention and loved to make everyone feel loved. He loved to go deep sea fishing and to hunt. He loved to play softball and was so proud when his team won the Seniors Championship in Monterrey, Mexico. He was a great man, a loving and a very giving man. Clyde “Sonny” Slater Jr. preceded in death by his father, Clyde Thomas Sr, mother, Catherine Slater, his brother Lester Slater and sister Claudine Foster.
He is survived by his wife Chong Ye Slater, their son Sonny Slater and wife Grace, his grandchildren Arthur and Dylan Slater. Daughter, Theresa Slater and husband Leno Cano, his grandchildren Kaylee Rose, Leno Keagan V and Natalie Cano. He is also survived by his eldest daughter Donna Anna Glydys Tritt, granddaughter Elaine Magdalena and great grandson Isaiah Christopher. He is also survived by his Daughter Gayelynn Slater, grandchildren Alex, Jackie, Brandon and Terilynn and great grandchildren Camdyn, Jaylynn, Chloe and Jaxin.
He is also survived by his eldest sister Blanche Rastetter, baby sister Irene Lyter, and sister in law Kathy Slater. And many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
