Cindy graduated from Jefferson High School in San Antonio followed by Texas Tech University where she received her bachelor degree in education. She received several additional certifications at Our Lady of the Lake University. Throughout her career, Cindy taught for several Department of Defense schools, including a stint in Bangkok Thailand. She held a variety of elementary teaching positions and retired from her favorite position as Librarian at Ft Sam Houston ISD 2010.
She married the love of her life, Jerry Riggs, in June, 1990. While Cindy enjoyed being a mother and step-mother to three "perfect" children, she really loved being a grandmother. Ice cream, swimsuits, paint brushes, and animals could all be found at Grandma's house. Cindy was a lover of all of God's creatures, sharing her home with several cats, multiple dogs, a cockatiel, and a turtle through the years. She took great pleasure in feeding her outdoor creatures including several generations of squirrels, deer, fox, raccoon, and even the stray skunk or two.
Cindy was a talented educator, a good friend, daughter, sister, and competitive Bunco player. She was a cherished wife, beloved parent and grandparent. Most importantly, she was a child of God. Cindy attended Northside Church of Christ for over 50 years and would consider raising her children and grandchildren to know the Lord, one of her greatest accomplishments.
Cindy is preceded in death by parents, Henry and Flora; and brother, Thayne.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jerry Riggs; and her son Brandon Brown (Jessie) of San Antonio, Cyndi Riggs of Ft Worth, and Jay Riggs (Shari) of Ft Worth; Sister, Mavoureen Hutchins (Richard) of Houston; Sister-in-law, Betty Cuevas of Boerne; six grandchildren, Mackenzie, Riley and Paislie Brown of San Antonio, Taylor, Bailey and Alyson Riggs of Ft. Worth; two great-grandchildren; and her beloved Yorkie: Crystal.
