Cynthia George Simmons went home to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 21, 2021 at 70 years of age after more than a 1 ½-year battle with cancer. She was a dedicated wife and mother who had the gift of giving, prayer, organization and faithfully shared the good news of Jesus with women for over 48 years of devotion to Stonecroft Ministries and our local church.
Cindy was born to Jackson and Margie George on October 30, 1950 in Emporia, Kansas. As a child she loved spending time with friends, grandparents, and extended family on her parents’ farm and Hereford ranch near Lebo, Kansas.
Cindy met her husband, Jim Simmons in 1966 while in high school in Topeka, Kansas. They dated 5 years and married as seniors at Kansas State University in 1971. After graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and Journalism she went to work as a Home Economist for Kansas Power & Light and immediately became involved doing features for local Stonecroft luncheons. Jim and Cindy’s first military assignment was in Washington, DC where Cindy was able to complete her Master of Science degree remotely from Kansas State in 1975. Their daughter, Robyn Christine was born at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in DC and their son, James Russell (Rusty) was born at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Cindy was a blessing as a military spouse during a 22-year career while she continued to lead Bible Studies and increased her involvement in Stonecroft Ministries in Heidelberg, Germany, at Texas A&M, in Tacoma, Washington and finally back in Washington, DC. She was always able to find full or part-time work which allowed her to stay involved in the ministry, church, and school activities for the kids. Because of her unwavering love for God, her service truly expanded after leaving the Army and moving to San Antonio, Texas in 1998. Cindy fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith until she met Jesus in Heaven. She joins her sister Trisha Koons and several cousins who passed away with cancer before their 40th birthdays. She also joins her Mother and Father in Heaven. She is survived by her husband Jim of over 49 years, daughter Robyn Tresnak and Son-in Law Doug Tresnak, son Rusty Simmons, grandson Jordan Cornell and his wife Rachael, and Mother-in-Law Clara Simmons.
Cindy’s favorite verse was Jeremiah 29: 11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” We all look forward to the promise of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ that Cindy now enjoys.
