

Dan was born in Frostburg, Maryland, to Walter and Alice Meade on March 31, 1954. He went to school at Bishop Walsh High School. He married Sharon Meade on June 29, 2013, in San Antonio. He worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 20 years. He was a veteran of Desert Storm and served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years. During his service, he was awarded the Meritorious Service, AF Commendation Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, AF Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, AF Organizational Excellence Award, AF Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, AF Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, AF Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Award and Kuwait Liberation Medal.
Dan was an avid baseball fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Pittsburgh Pirates. His favorite thing to do in life was watch his grandson Tyler Meade play baseball. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church of San Antonio, where he helped to serve communion and participated in the men’s group. He was also involved in Knights of Columbus. Dan was at his happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends.
Dan is preceded in death by sons Joshua and Christopher; first wife Lesley Edgeworth Meade (married Aug. 7, 1976 until her passing on Dec. 13, 2009); sisters Jane Neal and Joan Loar; and parents Walter and Alice Meade.
Dan is survived by wife Sharon Meade; son Daniel Joshua Meade and wife Ashley Meade; sisters Mary Roberson, Carol Lee and husband Jimmy Lee, and Janet Ross; grandson Tyler Meade; stepchildren Aaron Trovillion (Jenni Trovillion), David Tietze (Emily Tietze), Shawn Tietze (Jamie Lemay-Tietze) and Dawn Jorgenson (David Jorgenson); step-grandchildren Cameron Tietze, Maeve Trovillion, Lucy Trovillion, Harper Tietze and Dakota Jorgenson.
Pallbearers will be Barry Sherman, Bob Grover, Lennie Dixon, Mark Lee, Aaron Trovillion, David Tietze and Cameron Tietze.
Visitation will be held 5-9 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 19 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home (6321 Bandera Road).
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at Zion Lutheran Church of San Antonio with Pastor Kathi Johnson officiating.
Burial with Military Funeral Honors will follow on Friday, Sept. 6 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 9 a.m.
Memorials may be given to Mission MSA, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Pancreatic Cancer Society.
