

David William Handley, age 100, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on September 5, 1921, in Eagle Pass, Texas to Margaret J. McIver and David William Handley. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII deploying to the Pacific Theater of Operations, traveling to New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan. He married Magdalen Wipff when he returned to the states only to lose her to melanoma at the age of 25. His post-war job with Shell Oil Company became a lifelong career taking him and his family to 24 towns in four states before he retired to San Antonio in 1984. He enjoyed frequently mowing his neighbor’s yard unannounced but always appreciated, feeding the neighborhood wildlife, and spending time with his dogs, Mistie Ann, Penny, Babe and Peggy Sue. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Magdalen; his second wife, Wanda Jo Golden; his sister, Rachel and his nieces Margie and Arlene. David is survived by his son, David W. Handley (Karen); his daughter, Mary K. Pfullman (Charles); grandchildren; Stephanie Hoelscher, Tanya Michalski, Danielle Quinonez, Laurie Record, Kristina Handley, David Handley and Bryan Cortes; great-grandchildren; Abby, Jacob, Leah, Emma, Sarah, Gabriel, Thomas, Bryan and Judy; and great-great-grandchildren: Braylen, and Eleanor. The pallbearers are David Handley, Paul Neal, Tanya Michalski, Stephanie Hoelscher, Bryan Cortes, and Brian D. Cortes. Honorary Pallbearers are Kristina Handley, David J. Handley, Leah Michalski, and Emma Michalski. The members of the Pfullman and Handley families want to offer their gratitude and appreciation to David’s neighbor and longtime friend of the family, Albert. He has always been just a call away and a daily visitor. A special thanks to the Sunrise Hospice for all their care and help during David’s final days. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary North in San Antonio, TX. Interment will take place in Maverick County Cemetery in Eagle Pass, TX on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 11:00 am. A procession will depart the Yeager-Barrera Mortuary on the Del Rio highway and depart from there for the internment at 10:45. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal Defense League.
