To a great Father-in-law whom I had a pleasure of knowing.  David was a kind man. I remember the times, the last three years, him and the family coming over for Thanksgiving, whether to my place or in Buda, Texas where we once lived, always sharing stories, meals, his talk of football and sports. My son Michael and my daughter Christi loved their Grandpa Hernandez.  Thank you David for the wonderful memories I got to spend with you during family gatherings.

Tio, I have 4 wonderful memories of you, indelibly left with me,  before you departed:
	1. When I was all of 10 years old, how warmly you welcomed my family at 2 O’clock in the morning from San Diego, as if it was 2 O’clock in the afternoon— such grace and hospitality, you never seemed bothered when we arrived into San Antonio at that un-Godly hour.  No, my parents wanted to roll-in on you at the family hour of 2 O’clock in the morning.   And I remember you, so calm, at the dining room table with Sofie, having coffee and pan dulce with my parents.  You told jokes, and gave me riddles to solve.  You were kind, and understood the meaning of family, and stayed up to talk to my mom and dad and I, no matter how tired you were.  2. Your boots and your truck and your guns— Texan’s standard issue.  It took the whole family to get those boots off.  I remember Tia tying a rope around her waist, and asking the kids to form a rumba line, and pull. And your truck, I just couldn’t see my Tio David in a Toyota sedan--only when the world comes to an end.  3. Your baritone voice…that vibrato,  was so comforting to me.  I always looked at my Uncle David as a man’s MAN.  You strangled tigers with your bare hands and shot and skinned bears in Texas, yet you stayed so humble and said nothing about your life, but I just knew you were hiding stories of wrestling wild animals.   I saw you as the strongest of my uncles— one of the strongest men I have ever known. You were confident and soothing to the child that I was. 4. How settled you were in your season with Tillie.  The love between the two of you was evident during that season of your life.  The two of you made me feel so at home, thank you for sheltering me as a medical student, doing a rotation there in San Antonio.  Rest In peace, my Tio David.  You deserve a beautiful place to rest, and you are finally there, in the Lord’s arms.   I don’t drink coffee, but I know you will have pan dulce and leche waiting for me-- Little Joe

My dearest brother,

I will forever be grateful for your brotherly love and protection when we were kids, and though we went our separate ways, I always sought your advice, your wisdom and comfort in the decisions I would have to make in my own life.

Dear brother, until we meet again, I am comforted by knowing you are finally at rest in the palm of our Lord’s hand.

My Welita Yaya always ADORED MY TIO DAVID👍
How do I know because when I was a little boy laying in bed next to my Welita YAYA, she would always talk about my Tio David. 
She also told me when she is Gone from this Earth she would Like to be a Hummingbird. 
She even told me when she was young girl she Caught a Hummingbird. I could see this memory of hers made her very Happy🙏
I know my Beloved Welita Yaya is Happy once again next to my Tio David 🙏
 Tio David thanks for all the  Advice you gave me and for allowing  me to stay with you and Aunt Tili in your Trailer in1986. Tio you don't know how BAD I WANTED TO LEAVE LAREDO👍 Laredo was to small and Boring. 
Ohh one more thing Tio,  your Military pictures and your Military advice Inspired me to be a Soldier like you. For this reason I will always consider you:

Best memory I have of my uncle David is at a ranch in Ramireno during hunting season.  It was a pretty hot November day and he’s wearing blue jeans and a red and white plaid shirt and a rattler comes out on the road and he blasted that snake to pieces with his shotgun !! I was like damn ! Just got my total respect right there ! Always had the deepest respect for my uncle . May he rest in eternal peace with his family forever !! Love you Tio David !!

He is survived by his Wife Tillie Hernandez, His Daughters Gloria (Larry) Acosta, Anna Barroth; Son David (Linda) Hernandez, Jr; his sisters Nena (Alberto/Beto) Mata, Yolanda Freeman; his Step-Daughter JoAnn (Jeff) Ragen; his Step-sons, Michael (Sylvia) Ricondo, Richard (Annette) Ricondo, Roland (Yvonne) Ricondo, Dan (Brenda) Ricondo; and numerous Grandchildren, Nephews and Nieces.




He was preceded in Death by Parents Apolinario and Virginia M. Hernandez; Sisters Oralia and San Juanita (Janie); and Brother Leopoldo.
