

David Thayer Lewis passed away peacefully at his home in Garden Rige, Texas, on April 7, 2022. Mr. Lewis was born on April 6, 1933, in Kansas City, MO. His mother, Clara Slagel Lewis, raised him and his sister, Patricia (Bonnett) after the early death of his father, the Reverend Harry Warner Lewis. Mr. Lewis graduated from Shawnee Mission High School where he excelled in football, basketball and track. It was there he met his wife of 62 years, Dana Diane Springer. They both attended the University of Colorado, he on a track scholarship. They married upon graduation, on July 31, 1954, after which they moved to Harlingen, Texas for the Air Force. Mr. Lewis left the Air Force as a navigator, 1st Lieutenant and joined management at Sears, Roebuck. Mr. Lewis and his family moved throught Texas and Southwest with Sears, retiring as Store Manager in Denver, Colorado. After a period of 15 years in Houston, they relocated to San Antonio to be near their younger daughter, Chris, and her family. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis attended Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church in San Antonio. In 2012, Mr. Lewis was inducted as a Living Legend into the University of Colorado Hall of Fame.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his two daughters, Leslie Winfrey (Tim) and Chris Burke (Carter); as well as six grandchildren. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband and father who enjoyed sports, hunting and fishing with those he loved.
A private ceremony for family will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
