David Oliver Pearson Jr., age 56, entered eternal rest on January 29, 2021, after a brief illness and extended hospitalization. A father, husband, and son, David was a ray of light and happiness with a ready smile for whoever he met. He married his lifetime sweetheart, Kathy Lackey, in August 1985 and together they had three children, Joshua, Zachary, and Micayla. David is preceded in death by his mother, Gayle Pearson, and father-in-law, Donald Lackey. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathy, his three grown children, his father, David O. Pearson Sr., mother-in-law Lorraine Lackey, two brothers Dean Pearson and Dale Pearson and numerous nieces and nephews.
David was born (December 10, 1964) and raised in San Antonio, Texas and made his home in La Vernia, Texas where he built a home and raised his children. He made a career as a Fire Fighter, Fire Engineer and Paramedic and most recently worked in Communications serving the City of San Antonio Fire Department for 24 years. Throughout the department he was affectionately known as Super Dave. Prior to his fire career he earned his journeyman electrician license and worked in the trade for many years.
Everyone that knew David always noticed his constant smile and positive attitude. Aside from his career of service he continuously volunteered his time to a number of charitable causes. David served as a camp medic for the Texas Brigades youth leadership program. He recently became a certified Texas Master Naturalist and worked with local wildlife conservation groups to educate future generations about Texas’ natural resources. Always lending a supporting hand to neighbors, friends and family he was always ready to help. He spent many years with his children working alongside them in their many 4-H and FFA activities. A doting father, he took pleasure in all that Josh, Zach and Micayla did in their developing wildlife careers. David enjoyed spending time with his family and simply doing a little bit of everything. Whether he was hunting birds in the fall or fly fishing the Guadalupe River or the Texas Coast he loved the outdoors. Road tripping the central Texas BBQ trail, long Jeep rides to undetermined places and simply exploring Texas were some of David’s favorite pastimes. He was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 22, 2021, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
