David Christopher Rojas passed away on April 11, 2022 after a brief battle with liver cancer. He was 68 years old. David was born on October 11, 1953 to Daniel and Eugenia Rojas in Beeville Texas. He was raised there until he graduated high school at the age of 16. He then moved to San Marcos to attend college at Southwest Texas College, now known as Texas State University. David graduated with a Bachelors of History at the age of 20. A year later he married his high school sweetheart Rosemarie Obregon. Together they had one daughter, Sarah.
David began his career as a history teacher for the Somerset School district. While teaching history he drove a bus, and refereed for the local football team. But he knew teaching was not his calling. David was most fulfilled when he was caring for others. In October of 1980 David entered the San Antonio Fire academy and graduated that following year. He spent several years as a firefighter but quickly realized his true passion was emergency medical service. David spent the majority of his 31 year career as a Paramedic with the San Antonio Fire Department. He liked fighting fires but loved saving lives!
David had many hobbies and almost all of them took him outdoors. He loved hiking in the woods and mountains, where he could listen to the wind howl through the trees. He could often be found with a pole in his hand a fish on the line. He loved fishing so much he taught his daughter everything he knew. The stories he could tell about the fishing trips he took with his friends and family and the ones that got away. After retirement David expanded his hobbies and took up golfing. He would spend his time on the green with good friends and above par company. In between fishing, hiking, and golfing he wrote 2 books and started a third with his daughter. He was a true renaissance man.
David was a man with a large family, not just biological family but family nonetheless. He has been described by so many as the father they never had or the father they aways wished they had, a mentor, and sometimes even a brother. He welcomed most people with open arms and loved fiercely through his actions. He was a caretaker to the very end.
David is survived by his wife of 49 years Rosemarie Rojas, his daughter Sarah Larsen, son-in-law Mike Larsen, grandkids Nathaniel and Wren Cooper, brother Daniel Rojas Jr., sister-in-law Norma Rojas., nieces Adena Rojas-Nelson (and family) and Danya Bennett. As well as many other cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends he called family.
