David Lloyd Worden, affectionately known to friends and family as Dave, passed away on October 30, 2024, at the age of 69 in San Antonio, Texas. Born on January 12, 1955, in Oklahoma, OK, Dave's journey led him from his birthplace to the heart of Texas, where he spent his final years surrounded by the love and warmth of his close-knit friends and family.
Dave was a veteran, having served his country as an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force. Though his military service was brief, the discipline and camaraderie he experienced there stayed with him throughout his life. After leaving the service, Dave joined his family who had relocated to Billings, MT, where he would meet his one and and only wife, Julie Ruth Milicent Phillips. They married on March 11, 1977, and together they raised three wonderful children, celebrating life's highs and weathering its lows for over 28 years until they went their separate ways.
Professionally, Dave proudly considered himself a computer nerd due to his love for technology. His aptitude for computers led him to a long and fulfilling 29-year career at Wells Fargo Bank with his final title as Voice Network Systems Project Manager. Starting with the company in Denver, CO, despite swearing he'd never return to Texas, work and fate brought him back to San Antonio in 1996, where he remained until his passing. Dave will be missed by his coworkers as they enjoyed working with him everyday and will remember him as an exceptional person and teammate.
Dave found many interests during his years, each reflecting the vibrant and spirited character he was. He approached bow hunting with enthusiasm until he decided that he was "tired of getting shot at by other hunters," a quip that always brought laughter to those around him. His love for boating reflected his appreciation for the serene moments in life, while his talents at the pool table were a source of friendly competition with his sons, Richard and Daniel. Although he was outmatched by them in darts, the games were never about winning, but about the joy of spending time together.
Perhaps the greatest testament to Dave's zest for life was his passion for cruising. Whether setting sail alone or with loved ones, he cherished the freedom and adventure found upon the open sea. His love for the Denver Broncos was equally well-known, and his loyalty to the team was as steadfast as his commitment to his friends and family. If Dave was not home or working, he had set sail on another adventure on the open seas.
Described by those who knew him as kind, friendly, and generous, Dave's presence was a beacon of warmth. His big heart and his open, welcoming nature made him a cherished figure by his close friends. He was the best Father, Brother, Uncle, or friend you could ask for. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his sons, Richard and Daniel; his sisters, Michelle Virata and Tina French; his brother, Montgomery Worden; and his half-sister, Sherri Jordan-Bowden. He was predeceased by his mother, Mabel Luella Harvey; his father, Ronald Owen Worden; his biological father, Carl Jordan; and his dearly missed daughter, Jessica Worden.
As we bid farewell to Dave, we are reminded of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Dave embodied this sentiment, touching lives and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he met.
David Lloyd Worden's life was a tapestry of dedication, love, and joy. His memory will be treasured and kept alive in the stories and laughter he shared with everyone he knew. Though he has set sail on his final cruise, the wake of his journey through life will continue to inspire and comfort all who were fortunate enough to know him.
