He completed seminary training at McMurray University in Abilene, and later obtained Doctor of Divinity from Southern Methodist University. He proudly served as chaplain in the U.S. Army both stateside and overseas serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He pastored several Methodist churches in Amarillo, Abilene, Karnes City, Liberty Hill, Floresville and San Antonio. Preceded in death by his parents; son, Jon Paul Homer; brothers, James Everett Homer and Ray Reed Homer; sisters, Phyllis Ann Homer, Wanda Van Horn, and Glenda Miller.
He is survived by his daughter Lynn Allison Mixon (Travis) of Yoakum, Texas; five grandchildren; one great grandson; brother, Paul Bruce Homer; sisters: Rosemary Wright, Deloris Homer, and Patsy Moore; numerous nieces and nephews.
On Thursday, January 26th a service will be held in the chapel at Porter Loring on McCullough followed by interment in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors and caisson.
