It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend, Deana Hillock. She left this world unexpectedly on the morning of July 4, 2025, at the age of 57. While the details of her passing are tragic, we find comfort in knowing she was joined by her beloved mother, Linda Bason, doing what they loved most: spending quality time together on the water.
Deana was born on July 29, 1967, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to her loving mother, Linda Bason, and father, Dean Hammer. Her family grew a few years later with the arrival of her beloved baby sister, Jodi Coker, establishing the close bond they would share for a lifetime. Then her brother Randy joined the family a few years later.
When Deana became a mom, she dedicated her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. She worked tirelessly to provide the best life for herself and her daughter all on her own. Deana’s nurturing spirit, unwavering support, and boundless love will forever live on in the hearts of her loved ones. She had a generous heart, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Deana was a smart and accomplished woman. She strived for excellence in all aspects of her life, taking great pride in her professional achievements and the meticulous care she applied to every task. Her dedication shone brightly, whether she was at work or supporting her loved ones. She will be greatly missed by her friends and fellow colleagues.
Deana found immense joy in the outdoors, whether she was fishing, boating, or camping. Her happiest moments were often spent in nature or creating lasting memories with her grandbabies.
She possessed a remarkable talent for research and was the family's go-to person for help, information, planning, and anything that required diligent investigation. She was the "glue" that ensured everyone in her family felt protected and well-prepared for the future.
She leaves behind her devoted sister, Jodi and her husband, Gerald Coker; step siblings Randy, Angela, and Andraya; beloved father-in-law, Robert Bason (Bob); her only daughter, Heather, and her husband, Adem Atis; her niece, Courtney Coker; and her cherished grandchildren, Ela and Taner Atis, who were truly the pride and joy of her life. She also leaves behind several cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins back in her birth state of Missouri.
Though we mourn deeply, we find peace in knowing that Deana is now reunited with her beloved mother, Linda Bason; her dear father, Dean Hammer; and her grandparents, Dorothy and Dale Rasco. Her love surrounds us still—in the precious memories we share, in the stories we tell, and in the profound way we continue to care for one another.
A memorial service celebrating the lives of both Linda and Deana will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Porter Loring West Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas. All who knew and loved Deana are invited to join us in remembering and celebrating her extraordinary life. In tribute to Deana's vibrant spirit and her favorite color, we kindly ask guests to wear shades of purple. A reception will follow the service; the location will be announced at its conclusion.
