Our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Diana Medellin Cruz, age 60, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 with her family by her side. Her life was dedicated to her children and grandchildren. She always strived to give her children the best and made their holidays and birthdays, any celebration, exceptionally special. Ms. Cruz was very disciplined about her weight and appearance and was always sophistically dressed. She always impressed others with her charm and unique style.
She was the most fun loving Mom who treasured being with her family and spending precious time with her grandchildren. Just recently, she spent Christmas and New Year's in Utah with her daughters, grandchildren and son-in-law near the beautiful snow covered mountains.
Ms. Cruz valued her civil service positions with various government agencies, such as the Navy Reserve, FDIC, IRS, Immigration, and Fort Sam Houston; which allowed her to meet many interesting people and travel across the U.S. She was a very hard worker and took pride in her work; receiving many accolades and awards throughout her distinguished career.
She enjoyed family trips, especially to Nevada, Louisiana, Florida, California, New Mexico, and Texas. She enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Coushatta. Diana had one day hoped to return to New Mexico, where she had her best memories. She had a great passion for the arts which included music, movies, and dancing. However, her most valued possessions were her two granddaughters and grandson.
Diana was very giving and compassionate, always helping others in need and donating to her church, St. Jude. She was especially dedicated to matters concerning children; giving monthly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children.
She is preceded in death by her parents Pedro and Monica Medellin; and her brothers, Edward Medellin and Fernando Medellin. Ms. Cruz is survived by her daughters: Monica Ruiz and Georgette Ramirez (Raul); grandchildren: Nina and Lila Ramirez, Avirett Johnson; siblings: Juanita Garay, David Medellin, Mary Salmon, Pedro Medellin Jr., Consuelo Bernal, Paul Medellin, Benjamin Medellin and Joseph B. Medellin, other family members as well many wonderful friends and neighbors.
Through all the struggles she encountered, we were blessed to have her as our Mom, she was deeply loved and her memory will remain in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 25th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Porter Loring on McCullough.
