Dickie Dean Cannon was born on July 3, 1937 in Bakersfield, California, the fourth of eleven children born to Cyrus & Amy Cannon. His gentle shepherd, Lord Jesus, came and carried his lamb home on September 23, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas. Although a humble man, there were some things he took pride in; that Jesus is his Lord and Savior, whom he served tirelessly; loving and enjoying his family and friends; his time in the US Navy aboard the USS Oriskany; and his tribal membership in the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nina; son, Richard and his wife, Sherry; daughter, Rebecca Johnson and her husband, Doug, whom Dickie considered his other son; grandchildren, David, Geoffrey, Mariah Cannon, Jennifer Graf, Daniel and Rachel Johnson; 5 great-grandchildren; three sisters; and three brothers. Visitation is private. A celebration of Dickie’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2012 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Doug Johnson, officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum II. The family would like to express their love and gratitude to their friends at Harbour Hospice Care, who with loving compassion cared for him and the family. They would also like to express loving thanks to Dr. Rohit Kapoor.
