June 13, 1931 – June 14, 2023
Our beloved Mom (age 92) known to many as “Dee”, passed away peacefully at home on June 14, 2023, surrounded by her family and friends.
Born to Stephen and Anna Bzura in Shamokin, PA., she was raised and educated in Painesville, Ohio. Though she and her family settled in San Antonio in 1967, she never forgot her Polish & Lithuanian roots.
Her amazing life story was one of frequent challenge, overcome by steely determination and perseverance. She was a military wife, and mother of five, who made a loving home for her family, wherever the military sent them. Their many stateside assignments were enhanced by great overseas experiences in Japan and Hawaii. Regardless of the address, Mom was the glue that held the family together.
Aside from her ability as a great homemaker, Dee took her people and administrative skills into the world, outside the home, as a credit manager for Sears and the Halo Candle Company in San Francisco. She was a Medical Administrator at Ft Sam Houston’s Troop Clinic for 17 years. After retirement, she dedicated the next 15 years to growing a home-based business as an image consultant. She traveled widely, lecturing on the importance of image, and establishing a wide base of customers, who became her close friends. Her leadership skills were very beneficial as a serving President of Women in Business. She was a valued contributor as a charter member of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce, the Hallmark Collectors’ Club, and the San Antonio Tree Trimmer’s Club, which she served, as president, for 3 years.
Dee was a dedicated member of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary for over 30 years, and an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church for over 45 years.
Nothing meant more to Dee than her five children, who she considered her greatest accomplishment in life. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and making it magical for family and friends was her goal. Dee was an avid Hallmark ornament collector, each year she would put 4-5 Christmas trees in her home. She was a gift-giver, and one who loved hosting family celebrations throughout the year. Sharing greetings of every season was a favorite pastime, just as finding treasures at local estate sales and/or collecting and selling Hallmark ornaments gave her special joy. She was an avid reader until she lost her eyesight due to dry macular degeneration. After her husband and she retired, they loved to travel, going on cruises, and visit family.
Dee was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years Raymond “Mac” McGlocklin, daughter Barbara Gomez, parents, Stephen & Anna Bzura, and sister Amelia Bzura.
Dee is survived by her children, Mary Flack, Robert McGlocklin, Steve McGlocklin, John McGlocklin, (wife Pat), and son-in-law Rudy Gomez. She is also survived by her grandchildren Matthew Gomez, (wife Toni), Stacy Castano, (husband JR), Austin Gomez (partner Ana Sosa), Elle McGlocklin Loeppky (husband Mitch), and Gus McGlocklin. Her great-grandchildren include Alexis Castano (partner Bryce Gonzales), Anthony Castano, Elan and Ben Gomez, Solman, Samuel, and Violet Loeppky, Owen and Arya Gomez, as well as great-great grandchildren Chloe and Olivia Gonzales.
The family will receive visitors at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Tx 78218 on July 6, 2023 from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm, with a Rosary to be recited at 5:30 pm. Dinner to follow at Sunset Funeral Home in the Lonestar Hall.
Visitation will continue from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on July 7, 2023 followed by A Mass of Christian Burial 12:30pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 4411 Moana Drive, San Antonio, Tx 78218. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter # 4, at 2:00 pm.
Following the committal service, Dee's family will host a reception at her home.
