Donald H. Bender

Donald Hearne Bender passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the age of 87. He was a lifelong resident of San Antonio, served in the Air Force during the Korean War, and earned his three degrees from St. Mary's University and Trinity University.

In 1994, after a forty-year career, he retired from Government Personnel Mutual Life Insurance Co. as a Senior Vice President, Information Systems. He was an active participant in life insurance industry affairs and contributed to many technical publications. Donald was a founding member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Bexar Kiwanis Club, a life member of the Order of Alhambra, a hunting enthusiast, and an avid golfer.

He is survived by Patti, his wife of 64 years. He leaves his three children and their spouses: Blaise and Julie Bender, San Antonio; Lee and Keith Coleman, The Woodlands, TX; and Reed and Paige Bender, Round Rock, TX along with his five grandchildren: Justin (Erin) Coleman, Tucson, AZ; Paul (Mary) Coleman, Denver, CO; Ross (Katy) Coleman, New Orleans, LA; Diana Coleman, Dallas, TX, and Evan Bender, Arlington, VA.
