Donald Malcolm Rhodes

Donald Malcolm Rhodes, 97, of San Antonio, TX, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025.

Malcolm was born in San Antonio to Alfred Henry Rhodes and Dorris Mathis Rhodes on August 26,1928. He graduated from Harlandale High School in 1947 where he was a star football player. Malcolm met Gloria Anderson in high school and married on November 5, 1949. Malcolm joined Southwestern Bell Telephone after graduating HS. In 1951, Malcolm enlisted into the US National Guard and soon after transferred into the US Army, Signal Corps. Malcolm was honorably discharged from the US Armed Forces in 1954 returning to Southwestern Bell as a cable repairman until his retirement in 1981. Malcolm’s marriage to Gloria endured for 29 years, raising 3 children. Afterward, Malcolm married Betty H. Pruitt on August 11, 1978, adding 4 daughters to his family.

In his younger years, Malcolm enjoyed salt water fishing. After retirement, he and Betty raised quail and pheasant on their acreage near Blanco, TX. They would make numerous road trips to the western National Parks and especially enjoyed Las Vegas.

Malcolm is preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Dorris Rhodes, first wife Gloria Rhodes Duncan, second wife Betty Helen Rhodes, sister Carolyn Kennon, brother & sister-in-law Ronnie and Joyce Rhodes, nephew David Rhodes, and nephew & wife Steve and Linda Rhodes, son-in-law Mike Buck, and son-in-law Tim Self.

Malcolm is survived by his children Cynthia Riggs & husband Michael, Tracy Self, Darrell Rhodes & wife Suzanne, stepchildren Marie Anderson, Barbara Gaiser & husband Chuck, Maryalice Wallace & husband Dan, and Donna Buck. Included are the many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Nieces and Nephews along with their families.

Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, San Antonio, TX. Memorial services will be held at a future date.
