

He married Mary Elizabeth Cooper on June 14, 1947. He graduated from Indiana University with a BS in Business and later earned Master's degrees in Education and in Business Administration.
He served for over 27 years in the Air Force and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his career he was stationed in the Philippines, Korea, Germany, Turkey, and numerous bases in the United States. His two favorite assignments were in Izmir, Turkey and teaching Squadron Officers School in Montgomery, Alabama.
After retiring from the Air Force he worked for the Texas Department of Health for 11 years and also served on the board of the Ft. Bend County Women's Refuge. He was a Mason for more than 60 years. Don's faith was a defining value throughout his life. He was a founding member of the Rolling Oaks Christian Church where he served in numerous ways over the years. He was unfailingly generous in every way with his family, his church, his friends and his neighbors.
He was an accomplished athlete and enjoyed playing golf, table-tennis, paddleball and racquetball. He was the table-tennis champion of the Pentagon for two years and he won numerous gold and silver medals in racquetball competing in state and nationwide Senior Olympic tournaments. He enjoyed going to the gym and playing racquetball until the age of 85. He was also an avid card player and spent many happy hours playing with his bridge group, his church group and his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Elizabeth; daughter, Susanne and husband Martin Malles; son, Steve Stinson and wife Jeanne; son, Mark Stinson and wife Karen; step-grandsons, Kyle and Kelly Scott; grandchildren, Michael, Jake and Megan; brother, Bob Stinson; sisters, Mariwanda Forkner and Betty Joyce Beason; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
