

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, Donna Glynn Howell, age 82, passed away on June 27, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. Donna was born on April 16, 1940, in Houston, Texas to Ida and William Hamrick. Donna graduated from Alamo Heights High School and attended Texas Tech University.
When Donna was ten months old her father joined the U.S. Army and the family moved to Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. At the age of three, they moved to Angleton, Texas to live with family while her Dad went to Europe for a year (World War II). Upon his return the family moved to McLean, Virginia. The Korean War began, and her Dad was called to go to Korea, so the family once again moved to Angleton where Donna attended fifth grade. The family was transferred to Fitzsimmons Army Hospital where her Dad was the Executive Oficer of the Hospital.
In the summer of 1956, the family moved back to San Antonio. Donna would spend her summers with her Grandmother and Aunt Gee and Uncle Hig in Angleton, making fig and pear preserves. Pear preserves was still one of her favorite foods. The military travels moved the family to Heidelberg, Germany where Donna met First Lt. Michael Glynn. Donna and Mike married May 7, 1960. They would go on to have four girls and one son and travel to various stations of duty finally settling in San Antonio on January 6, 1975. She became involved with the neighborhood and was part of a group that started the neighborhood Homeowners Association. She was also involved in forming the Fox Country Volunteer Fire Department. It covered Fox Run and High Country Neighborhoods. She trained and became a volunteer fireman. The first truck came from the Texas Forestry Department and was delivered to her house. Donna was involved with her childrens schools. First involved with Northwood Elementary School PTA as secretary and was PTA President the first two years Stahl Elementary was open and PTA President the second- and third-year Wood Middle School was open. She served as Safety Chairman for the North East Council of PTA for several years. Donna was involved with both the PTA and the Band Parents at Madison High School. Stahl awarded her a Texas Council of PTAs Lifetime Membership. She was a Girl Scout Leader. In 1981, the third year Stahl was open Donna was approached by the principal and offered a job where she worked for 9 years. In 1990 Donna started working at Roosevelt High School as secretary to three assistant principals, retiring in December 2006. It was a big adjustment, but she enjoyed every minute!
Michael and Donna divorced in 1996.
Donna met and married her husband Gerald Howell in 2005, and they spent 17 wonderful years together. They married at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church in San Antonio surrounded by immediate family. Donna and Jerry went on multiple cruises, traveling to Cozumel, Progresso, Nassau, Bahamas, and Key West. They also traveled to New York, New Orleans, Washington DC, and France in 2018 to celebrate her birthday!
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Glynn; son in-law Matt Brymer and brother, Bill Hamrick. Donna is survived by her husband, Gerald Howell; brother Jim Hamrick (VG), daughters, Cathie Porter (Bill), Trisha Brymer, Susie Sheffield (Rodney), Amanda Frazier (John), and; step-sons, David Howell (Lauren), Trevor Howell (Kori), and Charlie Howell (Chloe); grandchildren, Jennifer, Ashley, Christy, Christopher, Jackson, Cade, Lucas F., Richard, Lucas H., Ali, Gemma, and Jade; and great-grandchildren, Kierstynn, Tatum, Hallie, Maddox, and Kai, Niece Judi Underwood (Greg) and nephew James Hamrick.
Donna left behind a legacy of love for her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She was surrounded by her entire family the last week of her life, a testimony of how much she meant to us.
