Dorothy Fay Griffin was born in San Juan, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley. She lived there until she was around 12 and moved to Olmos Park in San Antonio, and graduated from Alamo Heights High School. Dorothy attended a semester or two of college at UT Austin. Always a beautiful woman, she was a Stewardess with TWA in their glamorous glory days for a year.Dorothy had a very adventurous spirit and moved to Mexico City with her two daughters for about a year and a half in the late 1950’s. She returned to San Antonio and in 1960, she met and married the love of her life, Gordon Griffin Jr., a graduate of the US Naval Academy and UT law school. He was a District attorney in Brownwood, Texas, and later was elected District Judge. In the Brownwood area, Dorothy worked On the Governor’s Commission on Aging that served four counties; Dorothy was proud of her accomplishment of setting up the very first Senior Center in all of these counties.
In the year 2000 after the death of her husband, she moved back to San Antonio, settling in Oakwell Farms neighborhood. In the Spring of 2013 she moved into Independent Living at the Forum.
Through the years, Dorothy was an avid bridge player, a member of the Holly Garden Club, worked with the San Antonio Assistance League, and a loyal member of the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Lucas of Dallas and Marcia Lucas of Austin and Blanco. Just like Dorothy, Marcia had two daughters, Lisa Barton Derezin and Alexandra Barton Taketa. Lisa and Michael Derezin have two daughters Sage and Mia; Alexandra and Richard Taketa have two daughters, Skylar and Sierra —four precious and much loved great granddaughters! Dorothy’s daughter, Jennifer Lucas declares “I am a proud Childless Cat Lady—just like Taylor Swift!”
