Lt Col Douglas S. Christie Jr., (USAF Retired) passed away on January 28, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 92. He was born in Breckenridge, Texas in 1922, but moved to Helena, Montana as a preschooler and remained there until he entered the Army Air Corps in 1942.
He graduated from pilot training at Altus AFB, Oklahoma in 1943. In 1944, while assigned as a pilot at Hondo Army Air Field, he met and married Margaret Knolk of San Antonio. After his discharge from active duty following WWII, he entered the Air Force Reserve, but was recalled to active duty in 1950 for the Korean War. He was also a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He flew numerous airlift aircraft and finished his flying career in the C-5 as the Commander of the 75th Military Airlift Squadron, and with over 12,000 hours of military flying time.
His wife, Margaret, preceded him in death. In December 2013, he was married to Ann Horton.
Lt Col Christie is survived by his second wife, Ann; daughter, Carol, and husband Col Roger Hansen, (USAF Retired); son, Douglas Christie III and wife, Linda; grandchildren and their spouses to include: Christie and TJ Curry, Erin and Randy Hansen, Lisa and Richard Kattmann, Kristin and David Christie, as well as six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with a memorial service at Blue Skies of Texas, High Flight Chapel at 1:30 p.m. followed by a memorial reception.
Memorial donations may be made in Lt Col Christie's memory to Air Force Village Charitable Foundation to benefit Freedom House.
