He was born to the late Mervin Arthur and Bernice Shelly Bowles in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and preceded in death by his sister Diane Pucko.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Hubbard Bowles; daughter Susan and husband Anthony Lopez and grandson Anthony Edward; son, Steven Bowles; and brother-in-law, Ray Pucko.
He entered the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and remained in the service until retirement. His service was performed around the world with duty in Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Germany, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Indiana, Colorado, Kentucky, Texas, and Washington, D.C.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern College and masters’ degrees from the University of Georgia and Golden Gate University.
Following military retirement, he worked at USAA for over 15 years.
He was an avid golfer, cyclist, woodworker, and physical fitness participant, and was a dedicated volunteer at the Brooke Army Medical Center Medical Library.
His body will be cremated and the ashes inurned at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
