

Edward attended Thomas Edison High School, graduated class of 1990, and was captain of his high school soccer team. He was passionate and talented in soccer and had even played on the USA’s U20 national team as the starting goalkeeper. Shortly after he married his high school sweetheart, Veronica Acosta, and had three children; Edward Jr., Abigail, and Christopher. Edward supported and provided for his family throughout his life. When his children were of age he began their soccer journey together. Edward coached both boys soccer team until they graduated high school. While enjoying a few games of his own with his old high school friends; Bill, Roland, and rest of The Cool Arrows team. He loved his children and watching them grow. Some of his favorite moments included driving to see Abigail play D1 college soccer in California, seeing Edward Jr. become a US Infantry soldier and get married to his beautiful wife Sarah, watching them raise four beautiful children, and congratulating Christopher on becoming a San Antonio Fire Fighter. He did everything he could for his children and grandchildren. His “brothers” and best friends meant the world to him on and off the field. Edward was the life of the party and always had you laughing. Although he is gone from this material world his memories will forever be in our hearts for his lively character and loving heart. He was a soccer legend in the San Antonio community from player to coach and has inspired all his players throughout his coaching career.
Edward is survived by his children, Edward Hernandez Jr., Abigail Denise Hernandez, and Christopher Edward Hernandez; mother, Virginia Hernandez; and father, Leon Hernandez; sister, Lisa Hernandez; niece, Iliana Marrero; nephews, Isaiah Marrero, and Adan Garcia; grandchildren, Landon Hernandez, Josilyn Hernandez, Angelo Hernandez, and Ricardo Hernandez.
