

Edward "Eddie" Lee Morris, 89, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018 in San Antonio. He was born in Blakely, West Virginia on June 6, 1929, to Waitman and Cora Morris. Eddie grew up in Charleston, West Virginia where he graduated from Charleston High School in May of 1947. In October of 1947 he joined the Army Air Force which brought him to San Antonio. He left the Army Air Force in April of 1953 to begin his broadcasting career at KABC Radio in San Antonio. KABC had several name changes to include: KEYL TV, KGBS Radio and TV and then to KENS Radio and TV as we know it today. In the fall of 1958 he joined KTSA Radio, doing sales and remote engineering to include being contracted for the San Antonio Missions Baseball SouthWest, Conference Football and other sports events. In 1959, he took over the production department at KITE Radio and in 1960 moved to KITY/KONO as Production Manager. In 1961 he resigned to open San Antonio's first full-time recording studio, Mastersound, Inc. which opened for business July 13, 1962. Mastersound was instrumental with the production of National Country Radio programs for "Faron Young" and also promoting local commercial businesses such as Lone Star, Pearl Beer, Mike Persia Chevrolet, Cavender Olds, Knowltons etc. as well as "Sweet Adaline" and Barbershop conventions all over the USA. He also did the first broadcast of a basketball game with Kyle Rote as the sports announcer and a live bull fight from Nuevo Laredo, Mexico Lizfor the Gorden McClendon stations. In 1975 he left Mastersound Inc. to start MorrisSound with his oldest son Gary and added video productions which made local newscasts available for clients. In 1985 the MorrisSound acquired an FCC license to put the first low-power community TV station, KW67 on the air. The station broadcasted until 1995 when he decided to move into sports contract broadcast engineering. During this period he worked as a contractor with Gary DeLaune in San Antonio High School football. Rampage Hockey, and with the WNBA "STARS" and worked more than a thousand SPURS broadcasts over 23 seasons. Eddie was inducted into the San Antonio Radio Hall of Fame in 2016. At that time he decided to take off and spend more time with family and friends. He was a life time member of the Shriners and enjoyed playing multiple string instruments entertaining us all. He was an antique car enthusiast restoring, showcasing and touring enjoying the comradeship. He was preceded by his wife Anne McLeod of 43 years and Marjorie Brown for 28 years. Eddie is survived by his three children, Gary Morris (Jo Ann), Peggy Jo Morris-Walls (Joe), and Aaron Morris (Kim); grandchildren, Amy Jo (Shawn Joseph), Ryan Carpenter, Amy Marie (Michael Stevens), Jason Morris (Amy Danielle), Brian Morris (Jordan), Stephanie Lee Morris; seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
