Edwyna Bell Faulkner

A fourth-generation Texan with grit and grace, Winnie lived a life stitched together with faith, laughter, and boundless love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rex Faulkner Jr.; her son, Rex Lee Faulkner; her parents; and three siblings. She leaves behind a legacy in her three sons: John Mize, Troy (and Nena) Faulkner, and Bill (and Barbara) Faulkner, along with nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, each one marked by her steady love and gentle humor.

Winnie spent much of her life caring for others. Her work was more than a job; it was a calling. She nurtured generations of San Antonio families and their children, offering not just supervision but love, laughter, and guidance. To those who knew her, she was never “just” a caregiver—she was a trusted presence and, for many, a second mother. That was her gift, an ability to make anyone feel like family.

Winnie loved fiercely and without conditions. Her sons were her heart, and their wives and friends were swept up into that same embrace. Her grandchildren grew up in the glow of her affection and learned that “Grandma time” meant sewing lessons, camping, travel adventures, her famous cherry cheesecake, and maybe a harmless prank or two because Winnie was quick to laugh and quicker to pull a good-natured joke. Her giggle was infectious.

Her faith was as simple and as strong as a Texas sunrise, pure, bright, and steady. She taught by example, not just with words. In living her faith, she showed us how to tend what matters most: people.

Winnie believed in kindness, in showing up when someone needed her, and in loving with her whole heart. She leaves this world with those lessons shining in all of us, and probably with a few of us checking behind doors just in case she had one last prank planned.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 18, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218.

The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, August 19, at 2:00 PM, also at Sunset Funeral Home.

A committal service will follow on Tuesday, August 19, at 3:15 PM at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218.

Pallbearers will be Vernon Haze, Troy Faulkner Jr., Anthony Faulkner, Christen Faulkner, Aaron Faulkner, and Michael Paul Grass.
