Eileen Doyle Lundin, Age 83, August 12, 1941 - March 18, 2025, of San Antonio, TX, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family after doing all that she could to beat the cancer that finally took her. Eileen was known as “Bunny” within the family and thereafter to much of the world. She was born at Santa Rosa Hospital, daughter of Francis Joseph Doyle Jr., and Mary Frances Windmeyer Doyle, one of 22 first cousins in the Doyle family. She graduated from St. Ann’s Elementary School and Providence High School, class of 1964, and Our Lady of the Lake University with a degree in English. She earned her BSN from University of Texas San Antonio, and later obtained a degree in social work from McGill University of Montreal, Canada. She and her beloved husband, Robert L. Lundin, (Major, USAF retired) enjoyed 57 years together.
After their marriage, Eileen and Bob were stationed at Biloxi AFB, Mississippi, which she later referred to as her first “overseas” assignment. They moved to Washington, DC, where she and Bob attended the Military Language School, prior to his assignment as Air Attache in Boliva, South America. After retirement from the USAF, Bob became a United Nations UN employee with assignments that moved the couple to Argentina, Peru, Brazil, China and finally Canada. A gifted multi-linguist, these assignments were the basis for Eileen’s fluencies in Spanish, Portuguese and French. A lifelong Spanish speaker, she assisted in teaching English to new Hispanic students at Our Lady of the Lake University and she taught breast cancer awareness on local Spanish language TV. She served as President of the former local chapter of the Susan B. Komen Foundation. A noteworthy early job of Eileen’s in San Antonio was the production of the guidebook for HemisFair in 1968, as well as many handouts regarding early local heroes and desperados.
Her great loves were Mexican food, classical Spanish guitar music, Mission San Jose, Doyle family history and lore, creative writing, and cruises on the great rivers of Europe which she and Bob took every year with their dear friends. She was also well known for her work at the San Antonio Chamber Music Society serving as president of the board and penning many concert reviews under the nom de plume, E. Doyle.
Eileen is survived by her devoted husband Robert (Bob), of San Antonio, sister Ann Doyle Hart and husband Wm A. (Bill) Hart of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, sister-in-law, Cindy Lundin, two stepdaughters, Linda and Susan, two nieces and one nephew. Her niece, Michele Hart-Henry, provided exceptional care and love for Eileen.
Bunny's presence, sense of humor, and her exceptional writing skills will be deeply missed by her family, her friends and her Bunco buddies.
