
Bettye Lucchese served for 45 years as bookkeeper and office manager of the Lucchese Boot Co., where she began as a young business college graduate in 1936. In 1944, she married the proprietor, Cosimo Lucchese, residing with him in Alamo Heights until his death in 1961. She continued as office manager with her stepson Sam Lucchese until after his death in 1980. Her career at Lucchese Boot Co. spanned some of the most interesting years of the company's history. Her colleagues included some of the most skilled artisans in North America. Customers included the elite of Hollywood, Texas business, politics and the military, including Gary Cooper, Robert Taylor, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Maureen O'Sullivan, Zsa Zsa Gabor, the Andrews Sisters, Pedro Armendariz, Bing Crosby, Spike Jones, Generals George Patton and Dwight Eisenhower, Gov. John Connally, President Lyndon Johnson and the young Caroline Kennedy.
With her husband Cosimo, she enjoyed a broad social life in San Antonio, and was a passionate fan of the ballet, opera and symphony. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and later St. Peter's Prince of the Apostle's Church and St. Anthony's Church in Alamo Heights.
She is preceded in death by her sister Angela Arnold, and three brothers Gerry, Clem and Joseph Theis. She is survived by her three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
