Libby Rudd was born in the town of Naples, Texas, on January 31, 1943. She was the first child to Nell Rose Wallace McCollum and Weldon “Mack” Grady McCollum.
Libby attended Bryan Adams High School and went on to spend a lifetime working with her family as a small business owner. In her younger years, she was the president of her sorority and enjoyed participating in art shows. Saltwater fishing was a great love of Libby’s. She was definitely the best angler in the family. Perhaps, though, her greatest passion was becoming a born-again Christian. She truly lived her life as a Proverbs 31 woman. She showed strength and dignity at all times. Her words were wise, advice to her daughters flowing like a fountain of kindness. She spoke the truth, and taught her daughters to always tell the truth, no matter what. She was good to her husband and family and cherished them every day. Of her best friend and husband, Leroy, she often said, “You must have three things in a relationship to make it work: love, trust, and respect.” Libby lived by those words and gave selflessly to all of her loved ones.
Libby was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Melvin Leroy Rudd of Georgetown, Texas; daughter, Kay Michelle Rudd of Manvel, Texas; daughter, Kelly Ann Smith and husband Cary of Liberty Hill, Texas; stepson, Bret Rudd and wife Irene of Floresville, Texas; grandchildren, Makenzie Smith, Parker Smith, Cade Weidenheft, Sarah Rudd, Joseph Rudd, and Jacob Rudd; brother, David McCollum; brother, Keith “Cookie” McCollum and wife Margaret; aunt, Frances Laverne Halcomb; as well as numerous extended family members and a lifetime of friends.
A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Holy Cross Mausoleum Chapel in San Antonio, Texas where she will be laid to rest.
For those who are unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed:
