Emily Fox, after living a life full of gentleness and kindness, love and caring, loyalty and devotion to her family and to God, has gone home to heaven to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Emily was born at Baylor Hospital in Dallas on December 18, 1934 — the greatly anticipated and beloved child of William R. (Bill) Fox and Dorothy Bradshaw Fox. With the birth of her sister, Janie Fox Jones, she also had the joy of a life-long friend.
Emily graduated from Amarillo High School, attended Trinity University in San Antonio, and received her BA degree from Baylor University. She continued post-graduate study at Baylor, earning teacher certification. Always inspired by children and the delight of being with them, Emily had a very satisfying career in teaching first graders in the Ector County School District in Odessa for 25 years.
Singing, especially in church choirs, was an integral part of her life. From the age of two years, she could be found singing in Sunday school and continued this treasured musical experience in the youth choirs at the First Baptist Church in Amarillo. Then, with her family's move to San Antonio after high school graduation, she was a soprano in the Sanctuary Choir at First Baptist Church (FBCSA). Through her later years, Emily was thoroughly devoted to her volunteer work with the Music Ministry at FBCSA as a music librarian. This ministry was meaningful not only to her, but also to countless others within her church and in the extended community. She and her sister have set up an endowment fund at FBCSA to continue their support of the outreach of its glorious Music Ministry.
Emily's faith in Jesus was sustaining and compelling and ever-present as she lived out her daily life. She had a heart full of gratitude. When physical weakness came, instead of complaining, she would be reminded of Proverbs 17:22 ("A merry heart doeth good like a medicine."). Emily had a very personal and abiding relationship with her precious Lord which gave her indescribable peace. Those who have known Emily can best appreciate and express the importance and delight of her impact in their lives.
Emily is preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Thomas R. Jones. She is survived by her sister, Janie, cherished cousins, and treasured friends and extended family.
The Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 10th at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church San Antonio; 515 McCullough Ave; San Antonio, TX 78215.
