Emily, I know you are enjoying your mother's embrace in heaven and we mere mortals are left in sadness. I will never forget your mom sending me a photo of you when you were born in the hospital with a little Christmas spirit in the photo. I think you were in a stocking or something like that. I hate to say it but I really couldn't imagine your mom doing the "baby thing" and changing diapers, etc. But she did it and you turned out just fine! It is now our challenge to go on now without you. You will be missed by all who knew and loved you.

I am a friend of Emily's grandmother, Elaine Corum. I am really saddened to hear of Emily's death and can clearly see she is a truly remarkable girl. I had heard about her before from her proud grandmother. I am very sorry for her loss.

I am so saddened by the news of Emily passing away. I received the news from Richard Kane and John Lucas while visiting family. I have such fond memories of Emily during her time on the tennis team. She had such a gentle soul and was always so thoughtful and caring of her teammates and friends here at the university. There was a glow about her and I can remember times of her cheering me up just by her exuberance and passion. I can also remember that she had plans of helping others after graduating possibly with the Peace Corp or in some other way. It's not common to see a young person so committed in wanting to help others. 
As a coach you really get know to your players through long practices, long trips and just around campus. I remember very clearly taking Emily to the State Department when she was visiting Washington in 2002. Emmy was so pleased to get an inside glimpse of our country's Foreign Affairs agency. She loved the Hall of Flags at the Diplomatic Entrance, and commented on the reporters and camera crews set up around the hall. She asked endless, very intelligent questions about the life and work of a Foreign Service Officer. I got a grilling from Emmy about the Foreign Service Exam - what it covers, how to prepare, when it is given. Clearly, her taste for things international had been whetted by her summers in Europe, and Emmy was curious about the possibility of making a career in the international arena. The law degree she was working on would have been an excellent credential for the State Department, had she wanted to pursue that avenue. I was so impressed with Emmy's intelligence and motivation. She was organized and self-directed, and seemed to have a clearer sense of where she wanted to go than do most young people. Emmy was polite, engaging and had a lovely sense of humor. I recall thinking to myself what a great job her parents had done in raising such a delightfully self-assured young lady. She was a lovely, accomplished young woman, the kind of girl who would make any parent proud. Emmy's inexplicable passing is a terrible loss to us all: so much promise, so little time. Emily was an incredibly positive and caring addition to the law school. Even though I didn't know her well, every time she passed by in the hallway at school this fall, she would be sure to smile and say hi. Dear Zukowski Family: It was just yesterday that a sweet voice coming from behind me in torts class called my name. She asked, with that smile from ear to ear and those eyes sparkling with life, if I was the Frank from Santa Monica who had e-mailed her about sharing an apartment prior to the begining of the year. When she told me her name, I remembered her as one of the few that had responded in spite of the fact that she already had secured an apartment and a roommate. Emily did not stop there, she provided me with phone numbers of Tulanians looking for roommates; she also pointed me in the direction of a few apartments she knew were available. It seems just like yesterday that we were all preparing to take our criminal law final. Everyone was nervous and in their own preparatory zone when I noticed a nervous wreck of a classmate of ours approach Emily for some comfort and reassurance. Emily did not turn her back, though I could see and sense the nervousness of her own, Emily smiled and offered as many words of reassurance as our friend needed. That's just the kind of person that she was. In a world where we are all so obsessed with ourselves, it seemed to me that Emily cared a whole lot more about others than she did about herself. I am unlucky to only have known Emily for a few months. May God bless you and in Him may you find the strength to persevere through these most difficult of times.

I was only an acquaintance of Emily's at Tulane, but I know that she was such a sweet and outgoing person. I and many others in my class will certainly miss seeing her smile around school. My deepest sympathies to all of her family and friends.

Rodney Moody and I, Lisa Marie, worked with Emily for 2 years at Jazz in downtown Austin. Emily always brought a smile to all around her and would give you the shirt off her back if she thought it would help. She was wonderful, beautiful, light hearted young woman that we shall never forget. Love, light, and laughter to you all.
