She was born in Offenbach A/M, Germany. She came from a family of three brothers and five sisters all of whom are now deceased. She was a beautician for over fifteen years.
She was a remarkable woman who loved to sing, dance, laugh and enjoy life. Emmi also enjoyed reciting German Poetry and songs. Despite numerous moves as an Army wife, she kept an organized and immaculate home and took great pride in her cooking skills.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cecilia Berlingis; parents, Karl Schafer and Emily Schafer Bergmann.
She is survived by her husband of sixty two years, Joseph V. Berlingis; son, Frank J. Berlingis and wife, Wendy L. Martinson; granddaughter, Jennifer Voigt Berlingis and husband Derik Voigt; grandson, CPT Frank J. Berlingis, Jr.; great grandson, Trevor Austin Voigt; Madeline H. Berlingis, mother to Jennifer and Frank Jr; and niece, Irene Simon.
