Enriqueta Hernandez lived a rich and lively life. Everyday could be an adventure for her children. She was strict, but loving in all areas of her guidance. She believed in obtaining a good education, one that she was not able to achieve due to having to drop out of school to help take care of her younger siblings. She was extremely proud of all her children and her grandchildren, numerous have achieved higher educations from colleges and universities, as well as entering the military branches to defend out great nation.
She worked in numerous places, first as a seamstress, then as a meat line packer at Roeglin Processing Plant. Her great joy was as San Antonio School Crossing Guard where she retired, after the death of her husband, Alfonso R. Hernandez, with 25 years in the service. She had one of the busiest streets to cross the children, right in front of Winston Elementary School on General McMullen the throughway to Kelly Air Force Base, where workers were going in to work early in the morning and leaving just as school was letting out for the day. She was a Las Vegas trip coordinator, taking many family members and friends for a week of gambling fun in Las Vegas. Her road trips were fantastic and quite enjoyable for she had many repeat customers.
Her children enjoyed many trips too, i.e., to the coast, Canyon Lake, Colorado, California, Georgia, Florida. We fondly called ourselves the Vamanos Gang. We were always ready to go somewhere.
For many years, our mother was the matriarch of the Diosdado and Hernandez. She was ready to lend a healing hand and a friendly ear to help make someone's troubles seem smaller.
It goes without saying that she will be missed by all of us, but we are happy that she is now surrounded by all our spirit family. May she rest in peace. Mom, we love you, and yes, we know " you love us more."
The family Manta: John 13:34-35 NABRE
