On September 20, year of our Lord 2002, the soul of our beloved Ernestina R. Garcia was received in heaven to the open arms of God our Father and Jesus Christ. Born on March 2, 1919 to Alonzo Rodriguez and Francisca Perez, in Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico, Ernestina was the eldest of eight siblings. As the eldest she shared with her father the daily operations of running a farm. At an early age she showed accomplishment in business, mathematics, and a marked compassion for her fellow man, sacrificing her needs for the greater good of her siblings, parents, neighbors and strangers. In 1947 Ernestina came to Uvalde, TX to seek a better life for herself and family. Upon becoming a resident of the United States she immigrated her siblings to the United States, assisting them in setting their own businesses. Long before the women's movement, Ernestina became an accomplished business woman, owning her own battery shop, restaurant and apartment complex. She was preceded in death by her parents Alonzo Rodriguez and Francisca Perez, brother Hugo Alonzo Rodriguez, and husband Frank Warren Garcia. She is survived by her daughter Mayla S. Juarez; sisters Juanita Rojas and husband Alberto, Diamantina Rios and husband Rev. Ramon Rios, Evangelina Ascencio and husband Jesus, Sylvia Rodriguez; brothers Ernesto Rodriguez and wife Felicia, Alonzo Rodriguez and wife Mary, and Hector Cesar Rodriguez and wife Noemi, numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday 9/23 evening from 6 o'clock until 9 o'clock at Porter Loring.
