Esperanza H. Gonzalez, aged 89, of Falfurrias, TX, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, with family by her side. Born on July 8, 1935, she spent all her life in Falfurrias. Esperanza graduated from Falfurrias High School and shortly thereafter began her career working for Drs. Penly and Wilder at Falfurrias Clinic until 1963 when she made the heartfelt decision to leave her job and dedicate herself full-time to raising her children.
Esperanza was a devout member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing strength and comfort through her many years. An avid reader, she found great joy and comfort in the pages of her books.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 68 years, Salvador Gonzalez; her children, Melissa Gonzalez of San Antonio, TX, Kathy Gonzalez of Austin, TX, and Salvador (Sonny) Gonzalez, Jr. (Jennifer) of Austin, TX; and daughter-in-law, Veda Gonzalez of Halfway, Missouri. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Tomas, Alyssa, Aron, Sara, Ana, Noemi, Elena, and Evelyn, and great-grandmother to Alex, Anthony, Aziel, Majaya, Peponi, Mia and Michael. Esperanza is also survived by her sisters, Esmeralda Hinojosa of Falfurrias, TX, and Edna Aguilar (Manuel) of Port Lavaca, TX, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Jose and Gregoria M. Hinojosa, a son, Xavier J. Gonzalez, four brothers, and five sisters.
Acting as pallbearers are Aron Gonzalez, Tomas Gonzalez, Marcus Aguilar, Michael Aguilar, Samuel Garcia, and Dylan Olsen. Acting as honorary pallbearers are Anthony Gonzalez, Storm Massey, and Ben Easterley.
Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (304 S Caldwell St, Falfurrias, TX 78355) on Monday, October 28, at 9:30 am. A Rosary will follow at 10:30 am, and the funeral mass at 12:00 noon, with fellowship at Sacred Heart Parish Hall thereafter. Burial will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery (1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209) on Wednesday, October 30, 10:30 am at Shelter 3.
Esperanza Gonzalez will be remembered for her deep devotion to her family and faith, her passion for reading, and her enduring kindness, warmth and friendship to many.
