Eugenia “Genie” Linette McGough Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and friend, went home to our Heavenly Father at 11:20pm on November 3, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on November 19, 1935, Genie lived a life full of love, service, and unwavering faith.
Genie was a devoted wife to her late husband of 56 years, Alvin Ray Johnson, and a nurturing mother to her four children. Her life was a testament to compassion, strength, and dedication.
She retired from National Bank of Commerce and later from the North East Independent School District, where she served the MacArthur High School cafeteria with warmth and care.
Her heart for service extended far beyond her professional life. Genie was a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother, softball coach, homeroom mother, and counsellor to many. She was deeply involved in her children’s lives and in her community, always offering a helping hand and a listening ear.
Genie’s passions were many - she loved camping, crafting, reading, crossword puzzles, traveling, and spending time by the coast. Her summers were filled with joy, playing with grandchildren and creating memories that will be cherished forever. She adored her precious dog and found peace in the simple pleasures of life. Above all, Genie loved her family, her friends, and her Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Ray Johnson; her parents William Roy and Eda Marie (Goldbeck) McGough; her sister Lorna Goebel; her in-laws William Alvin and Louise Morris Johnson; and her siblings-in-law Marie and Tony Mann , Elinor and Glen Nutgrass, Donnie Johnson, Johnny Johnson, Joyce and James Walton, Tony Huble; and nieces and nephews Steve and Sue Nutgrass, Ronnie Nutgrass, Michael Johnson, Doug Huble, Kenny Johnson, and Janice Streeter.
Genie is survived by her loving children and their spouses: Allen Ray Johnson (Rhonda), Carolyn Johnson Fletcher (David), Glenn Edward Johnson (Penny), and Karen Denise Wynne (Earl); her in-laws Barbara Huble, Len (Marsha) Johnson, Carol Leet and numerous nieces and nephews.
She leaves behind a legacy through her grandchildren: Eric, Christopher (Trish) Johnson; Brandon (Bianca), Chad Fletcher, Stephanie (Allison), Melissa Johnson; Paige Parker,- Kyle Johnson, Katie, Sara, Nick Wynne; Tara Grizzell, Josh Sutter, Dallas Alderton, her great-grandchildren: Haleigh (Josh) Salinas, Emily, Brandon, Jackson Johnson, Isaac Gauthier, Brin, Beau, Haylee, Emily, Holden, Ivey Fletcher, Brandon Heeres, Parker Laughlin, Blair Johnson, Nola Wynne, James Grizzell, and her great-great-grandchildren Jamie.
Genie’s love for athletics began at Natalia High School, where she played volleyball, basketball, and softball, and served as a drum majorette. She continued her passion for sports into adulthood, playing slow-pitch softball for CYO and encouraging her children and grandchildren in their own pursuits.
Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at San Antonio Wellness Center and Rehab for their compassionate care and kindness.
Visitation will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX 78232, on November 20, 2025, from 5p-7p.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3300 Urban Crest, San Antonio, TX 78209, Friday November 21, 2025, at 12:15pm .
Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30pm.

Genie’s life was a beautiful example of faith, love, and service. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
