Evert Burke Jr. of San Antonio, TX. passed away on April 18, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on August 4, 1950, in Sarah Ann, West Virginia where he grew up surrounded by the beauty of the mountains, learned the value of hard work, resilience, and looking out for others.
He worked proudly and served 14 years in the United States Army as a medic and later spent more than 20 years as a civilian working as a long haul truck driver.
He was preceded in death by, his parents, Everette Burke and Velvie Evans.
Evert is survived by his wife, Yolanda T. Burke; his children Stoney Hart Burke (Samantha Hart) and Sue Ellen Burke (Shawn Vincent); grandchildren, Samantha Renee Burke, Joshua Michael Burke (Brigette), Ethan Lane DeVilbiss, Rochelle Nicole Burke, Ryder-Cole Anthony Olmos, Anthony Hart Burke; great-grandchildren, Veronica Grace Burke, and Mason Avery DeVilbiss; and two nieces, Connie Browning Lester (Clinton) and Drema Walls (Dewayne).
He was actively involved in hobbies; he found joy in the things he loved most and lived life with passion and personality. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was especially known for his love of cooking, often BBQ’ing for family and friends. He could often be found playing cards, chess, shooting pool, and at one point even took up bull riding, embracing adventure with confidence. He took great pride in his collections of guns and knives and enjoyed spending time reading and listening to audiobooks. A devoted sports fan, he faithfully cheered on Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs. He enjoyed trips to Las Vegas to try his luck gambling and loved going to the movie theater, never passing up the chance for the largest bucket of popcorn. He had a passion for gardening, especially tending to his tomatoes and watching them grow. He valued staying connected with family and friends through social media, and in his quieter moments, found comfort and companionship with his beloved cat, Midnight.
The family will receive friends 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX.
Father Robert Grizzel will officiate. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
