

Faith Margrete Cook Mahaffey, beloved wife, devoted docent, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2024. Faith lived a life marked by profound love for her family and friends, and boundless generosity. This was shown by her favorite color PINK. Everyone is invited to wear pink to honor Faith to the memorial service, mass, and lunch.
She was born on March 15, 1942, in Lawton, Oklahoma but came to San Antonio as fast as she could. Faith graduated from Trinity University with a degree in Elementary Education. Lupita (last dog) veterinarian, Faith taught him his first-grade year.Faith married Lt. Col. Kenneth E. Mahaffey, on July 15, 1967, and their love grew deeper with each passing year. Together, they exemplified the true meaning of partnership, supporting and encouraging one another through life's joys and challenges. She and Ken traveled the world together, Russia, Europe, Asia, and Faith’s favorite, Mexico.
Faith found her calling as a docent at the McNay Art Museum. Her passion for art and her gift for storytelling enriched the lives of countless visitors, as she guided them through the galleries with enthusiasm. Faith shared her love of nature as a docent at the San Antonio Zoo. Her gentle spirit and deep reverence for wildlife endeared her to both visitors and animals alike. Faith's commitment to education and conservation left a mark on the community, inspiring future generations to protect the natural world.
Faith was also an active member of the Laurel Heights Garden Club and the Live Oak Garden Club. She cultivated friendships, nurtured beautiful gardens, and won many flower and plant arrangements contests. Her love of flowers and plants is known to anyone that visited her home. Her walls are painted with Mexican style plants, flowers, and animals.
Faith and Ken had a special place in their heart and home for many beloved chihuahuas and cats, who brought them endless love, joy, and companionship throughout the years. Their playful antics and unconditional love brought light to her life, filling her home with warmth and continuous laughter. Faith taught them many tricks, and everyone got “a Show” when they visited the happy dog barking house.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Marcelle and Lester R. Cook; brother, Michael “Mickey” Rudden; sister-in-law, Anna Lou Rudden; and husband of 45 years, Lt. Col. Kenneth E. Mahaffey. Faith is survived by her Goddaughter, Susan Saenz-Solis (husband Fred); sister-in-law, Martha Ann Mahaffey; and nephew, Paul Michael Rudden; and a host of friends who will miss her dearly.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
