Federico Moncada Cardenas, born on September 30, 1934 in Eagle Pass, TX was called to be with The Lord on May 3, 2021 at the age of 86. Mr. Cardenas and his family moved to San Antonio, TX in 1971, and lived here for the remainder of his life.
Mr. Cardenas attended St. Alphonus Catholic Church, San Juan De Los Lagos and also frequented San Fernando Cathedral. Prior to retirement, Fred, as he was called at work, was a hard worker for his family, rarely missing work when he worked at USAA, Southwestern Bell (when it was located in San Antonio), and University Health System as a custodian. He also worked as a plumber assistant and migrant worker in his younger days. He volunteered for community improvement efforts with Communities Organized for Public Service (COPS) in the 80’s and always advocated for “the little guy”. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed reading about politics, social issues, and sports. He and his wife were married for 61 years and raised five children.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen R. Cardenas; children: Eduardo Cardenas, Patricia Ibarra (and James) of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Peter Cardenas, Carmen Treviño (and Arnold), Fred Cardenas (and Amber); grandchildren: Christopher Ponce (and Marisa), Victoria Cardenas (and Roland), Peter Cardenas, Jr, Isaak Cardenas, Samuel Cardenas, Eli Cardenas, Sophia Ibarra, Kira Ibarra (and Steven) and Alek Ibarra; great grandchild, Lucas Baer; sister Anita Castaneda, and many other loved extended family members and friends.
The Visitation will be on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino, 226 Cupples Rd. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Procession will depart from the funeral home on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2004 Chihuahua St., San Antonio, TX 78207. Interment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery II. Pallbearers will be: Fred Cardenas, Peter Cardenas, Eddie Cardenas, Isaac Cardenas, Chris Ponce and Rafael De Los Reyes.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, only 50 guests will be allowed in the funeral home chapel at a time and only 10 guests will be allowed under the tent site at the cemetery, although more guests will be allowed with social distancing at the site.
Facial coverings are required to be worn at all times.
