Felice Feldman of San Antonio died Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the age of 80 due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. She was laid to rest in a traditional graveside service on March 5 at Temple Beth El Memorial Park in San Antonio.
Felice was a lifelong learner and educator. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, she taught junior high Spanish and French. She transitioned into a long career as a “Rock Star Librarian,” working as a children’s librarian in both public and elementary school libraries, and even sharing her (library) expertise in a private Catholic high school. She also helped future educators by teaching Children’s Literature courses at local universities.
While Felice found an immense joy in reading, she found even more joy in sharing book recommendations with others and chatting about the various things folks have read. Felice volunteered her time developing and maintaining other literary institutions, including the Temple Beth El library, the Texas Bluebonnet Award, and acting as a private benefactor to her daughter’s classroom libraries.
Felice actively participated in the Jewish community in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas, teaching Hebrew School, engaging in various committees, and playing multiple mahjong games a week. Her voice, light, and joy will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Peter Feldman; her daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Simeon Smilack, her grandson, Samuel Smilack; her sister and brother-in-law Linda and Jerry Himelstein; niece and nephews; Jenna Hsiang, Abram Himelstein, Josh Atir, Yoni Atir, and Joel Atir; many great-nieces, and one great-nephew.
